When will the money arrive?

There are a few things you need to do after your application has been approved and before we can start disbursing support.

When your application has been approved

If your application for support has been approved, you need to do a few things before you can get the money. We cannot make the first disbursement before you have done everything you need to do.

You must:

  • sign the support agreement using BankID
  • provide a valid account number at Dine sider/your profile

If you are under the age of 18, the support agreement must be signed by a parent or guardian. Log in for parent signing.

The other things you need to do to get your money depend on the type of educational institution you are attending.

University/university college

If you are a student at a public university or university college in Norway, you need to:

  • pay semester fees to the educational institution
  • register for courses and teaching at the educational institution

The university or university college will let Lånekassen know when you have registered for courses and paid your semester fees. It can sometimes take a while from the time at which you make payment until we are notified by the educational institution.

Private university college

Students at most private university colleges are required to enter into contracts with the educational institution. Lånekassen will be notified by your educational instution when the contract has been signed. Please check what applies to your educational institution.

Upper secondary school, folk high school or vocational school

If you are attending upper secondary school, folk high school, vocational school or another educational institution not mentioned above, you will receive your money when the educational institution has registered you as attending the start of the academic year. It can sometimes take a while from you attending until we are notified by the educational institution.

Online classes

If you are taking online classes, your educational institution needs to confirm your attendance after you start. Each educational institution has different criteria in terms of what they consider having started. Please check what applies to your educational institution.

The first disbursement during the semester

The time of the first payment in each semester varies depending on where you are studying and when we receive all of the information we need.

If you are studying in Norway, the first possible disbursement date is usually 5 January during the spring semester and 5 August during the autumn semester.

If everything is not ready by the 5th, we will continuously check whether you have done everything you are required to do and will disburse the money as soon as everything is in order. It can then take three to five days until the money arrives in your account.

Are you attending an educational institution that needs to confirm that you have attended, such as an upper secondary school or folk high school? You will not receive your money until you have attended.

Most of those who study abroad will receive their money at the start of July at the earliest.

If you are studying in Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, you will receive your money at the start of June at the earliest.

Disbursements during the academic year

Support is disbursed on the 15th of each month. If the 15th falls on a week day, you can expect the money to arrive in your account on this date.

If the 15th falls on a weekend or public holiday, the disbursement will arrive sooner.

The time of day at which the money will arrive in your account depends on your bank.

If you are studying abroad, you will receive one disbursement at the start of each semester. The month in which your money will arrive depends on the country in which you are studying. Log in to see when you can expect your money to be disbursed.

We disburse grants and loans continually

In order to get money, your application must be approved and you must fulfil the payment conditions. Some applications takes longer to process.

How support disbursements work

The first disbursement during the semester will only be made after you have done everything you need to do. The disbursement date for the rest of the semester will be the 15th of each month.

The money will arrive in your account on the 15th of each month

Students in Norway will receive a larger amount in August and January than the other months of the academic year. Money will be disbursed automatically after the first disbursement for the semester has been made. The money will arrive no later than the 15th of subsequent months. If you are studying abroad, you will receive your money in June/July and December.

It takes a while from the time at which we transfer the money until the money arrives in your account

If you have logged in to lanekassen.no and it says that your money has been transferred, this means that we have sent the money to your bank. It can then take two to three days before the money arrives in your account. The time of day at which the money will arrive in your account depends on who you bank with.

The number of months of the year during which you can receive support

Most of those attending higher education for the entire academic year will receive support for 11 months of the year, from August up to and including June.
However, there are some exceptions. If you are studying part-time or attending a folk high school, your money will be disbursed from August to May. The same applies to pupils attending upper secondary school and primary and secondary education.
